About the Painting Process – The Heart Reveals Itself

In this painting, I began with several layers of paint applied in an abstract fashion. After the last layer dried, I stood back to observe the painting in order to see where it wanted to go next. It was at this point that I noticed a heart shape had formed at the end of the path. I believe each painting is teaching me or sharing a message with me and its viewers. To honor the process, I did my best to preserve the heart as I proceeded with the rest of the painting. Ultimately, “follow your heart” become the message of the entire painting.
