One Woman’s Daily Spiritual Devotion

Natalie-MeditatingThe first time I heard the word “devoted” paired with “spiritual” I fell in love with the phrase. Devoted means that you love something, you have lots of enthusiasm for it, and that you are committed, dedicated, loyal and faithful to it. Phew, when you read all of the things it means, you get the sense that “devoted” is a very loving and powerful word.

In order to express my devotion to Spirit, I do my best to nurture my relationship with Spirit on a daily basis. The following is what I strive for; sometimes I fall short but overall it’s a daily practice that feeds my soul:

  • I start every morning with a prayer to be an instrument of God’s will.
  • I meditate or journal, either communing or conversing with Spirit.
  • I own my issues. Whatever triggers me, I do what I can to heal it and/or offer it up to Spirit for healing.
  • I forgive and ask for forgiveness, not just for the surface issue but also for the error in perception that sees anything or anyone as separate from me. I consistently ask to see everything from God’s higher truth.
  • I check in with Spirit for guidance, or just to say hi, throughout the day.
  • If I come up against a frustrating work-experience or challenging personal issue, I absolutely tune in to Spirit for guidance and direction.
  • I do my best to be a Light in all my interactions, both with others and myself.
  • I fan the flames of my enthusiasm for all things Spirit-based by reading inspiring spiritual or metaphysical books, listening to uplifting music, or watching the occasional faith-based movie.
  • I end the day with thanking God for the blessings of the day.

The goal here is not to set up an onerous list of must-do’s, but to lovingly reach for Spirit in ways that add a sense of connection, depth and joy to your life. Having a daily spiritual devotion is not “one size fits all.” For me it took a little experimenting to find a mix that worked for me. How do I know it’s working? I look forward to my “daily devotions” and spending time with Spirit. I feel like I have a much more personal relationship with God. Now, no matter what’s going on in my life, I feel a greater sense of connection, purpose and peace.

I’d love to hear how you connect with Spirit. Please comment and share so we can all be inspired!
