I am thrilled to be offered a solo exhibit at the Hamilton Wenham Public Library, which will run from September 6 through October 30, 2023. The theme of the exhibit is “Magical Landscapes”.
The centerpiece of the exhibit will be my Love Poem painting, a 48” x 48” acrylic and collage mixed media painting containing over 20 love poems I wrote more than 40 years ago.
My goal was to make a painting that was physically and energetically embued with the vibration and feeling of love.
I selected twenty love poems, many handwritten, that I wrote as a young woman, and then glued them to the painted canvas. A few stanzas from favorite current day love songs were also included as a way to represent new love. I applied frisket film over a handful of the poems to ensure some of them would remain visible during the painting process. The overall result is a colorful and uplifting abstract that vibrates with love, hope, and optimism.
Also on display will be over twenty enchanting marshscape and birch tree landscape paintings that I’ve been told evoke a sense of wonder and delight.
I’m also offering a free Interactive Art Demo about my Gelli printing and mixed media collage process. Gelli printing is a form of mono printing, which uses paint and a flexible printing plate to create colorful prints and patterns on paper. I’ll be demonstrating how I use these handpainted papers in my mixed media paintings to create vibrant color, texture, and interest. The results can also be used to create collage, gift cards, art journaling, and more. After the demo, audience members will have the opportunity to try the gelli plate and create colorful prints to take home.
