The story behind the “Moon Friends”

“Moon Friends” a 10”x10” mixed media painting by Natalie Eve Marquis

If you haven’t guessed it by all the appearances it has made in my art, I’m an unabashed moon lover. When I lived in Kingston, NH the full moon would shine through our bedroom window, which was on my side of the bed. On those nights, I’d inch a little closer to the edge so I could “moon bathe,” and drift off to sleep with a smile on my face.

I’m one of those people who will pull over on the side of the road to take in the picturesque beauty of a rising full moon. You might also find me wandering around my yard or sitting on my deck during a full moon, simply basking in its energy and glow. I can’t fully explain it, but for me, the moon has an irresistible allure.

There’s actually a word for people like me: selenophile — those of us who have a deep appreciation and fascination for the moon. It’s this love affair with our celestial neighbor that inspired my new series, “Moon Friends.” This collection is a celebration of moon lovers and their lunar-loving pals, capturing the magic and connection we feel with the night sky’s brightest companion.
